The Datengxia Water Conservancy Project passed the acceptance of the second phase of water storage (61 meters elevation)

From September 27th to 28th, the Ministry of Water Resources formed a phased acceptance committee. Liu Weiping pointed out that with the joint efforts of all parties, the project construction has overcome the catastrophic flood, the world's highest herringbone gate system and commissioning, and the country's largest axial flow propeller hydroelectric generator setMany difficulties such as manufacturing and installation were faced, but major milestones such as river closure, water storage in the first phase of the lower lock, trial navigation of the ship lock, power generation by the first unit, and water blocking of the entire building were successfully achieved. After the first phase of the project was impounded, the Dateng Gorge Project's role as a river basin control project has emerged, and it has initially exerted benefits such as flood control, water resources allocation, shipping, and power generation, especially in response to the severe drought in the Pearl River Basin in 2021 and in the defense of the Xijiang River in 2022. Played an important role in numerous numbered floods.

After the second phase of the project is impounded, it will be used at the normal water storage level, which will give full play to comprehensive benefits such as economic benefits, social benefits, and ecological benefits, and further enhance the flood control and security capabilities of the Pearl River Basin and the water quality of the Pearl River Basin. The ability to optimize the allocation of resources and ensure water supply, the shipping capacity of the main stream of the Xijiang River, the ability to ensure regional energy security, and the ability to ensure the ecological security of the Pearl River Basin.

In the next step, all parties involved in the Dateng Gorge Project must resolutely implement the major decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee that "the epidemic must be prevented, the economy must be stable, and development must be safe", conscientiously implement the work requirements of Minister Li Guoying's "seven two-pronged approach", and coordinate development and safety, and firmly adhere to the bottom line of safety; strengthen construction management to fully complete construction tasks as scheduled; strengthen operation management to ensure that the comprehensive benefits of the project are fully realized; promote high-quality development and create first-class water conservancy projects.

The Datengxia Water Conservancy Project is a landmark project among the 172 major water conservancy projects for water conservation and water supply identified by the State Council. It was launched in the first phase in September 2020.The sluice will store water to a height of 52 meters. The second phase of water storage will gradually raise the water storage level to a height of 61 meters in two stages based on the water inflow from the reservoir and coordinating water needs such as shipping, power generation, and ecology.
